The Positive Behaviour Management with Physical Intervention course delivers the full Timian Positive Behaviour Management curriculum alongside physical intervention training tailored to your organisation's needs.
BILD Act Certified and Restraint Reduction Network (RRN) Approved, this programme equips staff with the skills, knowledge and confidence to prevent escalation, reduce restrictive practice and safely use physical intervention as a last resort when required.
This programme delivers the complete Timian Positive Behaviour Management curriculum, including physical intervention training where identified as appropriate through a Training Needs Analysis. Learners develop a comprehensive understanding of behaviour as communication, trauma-informed approaches, restrictive practice reduction and person-centred support strategies.
Delivered by Empeiria's Senior Timian Instructors, the course combines nationally recognised theory with practical workplace application. Staff learn how to prevent and de-escalate incidents effectively while gaining the confidence to apply approved physical intervention techniques safely, ethically and proportionately when all other options have been exhausted.
*3 days face-to-face training, or hybrid delivery consisting of 2 classroom days plus pre-course e-learning.
**Face-to-face classroom delivery or hybrid learning. Interactive, practical and scenario-based throughout.
The course is delivered over three days at your organisation's premises, or through a hybrid model that combines pre-course e-learning with two days of face-to-face delivery. Learning is highly interactive and includes group discussion, workplace case studies, scenario-based activities and practical skills development led by experienced Senior Timian Instructors.
Participants explore the five core chapters of the Timian Positive Behaviour Management curriculum, covering relationship building, understanding behaviour, trauma-informed practice, individual response strategies, restrictive practice reduction and ethical decision-making. Learners are introduced to key frameworks including the Graduated Hierarchy of Intervention, the Four D's framework, the SPACED Model, the Crisis Cycle and the Six Core Strategies for reducing restrictive practice.
Following completion of the theoretical elements, learners undertake practical physical skills training based on the findings of a Training Needs Analysis. This may include General Protection Skills, Physical Interventions, Enhanced Skills, Clinical Holding, Eating Disorder Interventions or Elderly Care Interventions. Throughout the programme, the emphasis remains on prevention, de-escalation, safety, dignity and the ethical use of restrictive interventions only when absolutely necessary.
This course is suitable for staff working across health, education and social care who require BILD Act Certified Positive Behaviour Management training that includes physical intervention skills. It is particularly relevant for supported living services, residential care, mental health services, autism and learning disability services, CAMHS, eating disorder services, schools, SEND settings and other environments where physical intervention may be required as part of a comprehensive behaviour support strategy.
The programme is ideal for organisations seeking to provide a consistent, nationally recognised standard of Positive Behaviour Management training without developing their own in-house instructor team.
