The Timian Positive Behaviour Management Train the Trainer Programme is designed to equip professionals with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to deliver our BILD Act Certified Positive Behaviour Management (PBM) courses within their own organisation.
Once qualified as a Timian Affiliate Instructor, participants can train their colleagues in-house, building lasting internal capability and reducing dependence on external providers.
The programme covers de-escalation strategies, trauma-informed communication, individual response strategies, ethical frameworks, human rights legislation, and, where relevant to your organisation's Training Needs Analysis, physical intervention and restraint reduction techniques. The result is a comprehensive, person-centred approach to behaviour management that empowers both trainers and the staff they will go on to teach.
Want to learn more about Timian? Explore our range of Timian Courses or view more information on the official Timian website.
The course is delivered across four intensive, in-person training days, preceded by six hours of e-learning that participants complete before attending. Learning is highly interactive and built around real-world scenarios, group discussion, peer-to-peer learning, and practical physical skills sessions. Delegates are supported by experienced Timian trainers throughout.
The programme is structured across five core chapters, followed by specialist physical skills modules tailored to each organisation's Training Needs Analysis:
Building Relationships: building healthy staff relationships, trust with supported individuals, active listening, empowering people, and understanding cultural norms.
Understanding Behaviour: defining behaviour, the role of communication, trauma-informed approaches, functions of behaviour, and different cultural contexts.
Individual Response Strategies: the Graduated Hierarchy of Intervention, the Four D's, the SPACED Model, body language, posture, eye contact, the Crisis Cycle, and Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs.
Reducing Restrictive Practice: defining restrictive practice, the Six Core Strategies, data-informed practice, leadership, debriefing, and reporting.
Ethics, Law and Standards: human rights legislation, ethical decision-making, professional codes of practice, the umbrella approach to legislation, and organisational policy.
General Protection Skills, Physical Interventions, Enhanced Skills, Clinical Holding, Eating Disorder Interventions, and Elderly Care Interventions: all delivered based on a Training Needs Analysis and only after completion of Chapters 1–5.
The Timian PBM Train the Trainer Programme is designed for professionals who will take on an internal training role within their organisation. No previous training experience is required, facilitation and presentation skills are built into the programme itself.
Candidates must work in the field they intend to teach in, as this is essential for credibility and relevance of delivery. Once qualified, Timian Affiliate Instructors may deliver training within their own organisation. A separate pathway exists for those wishing to become Timian Academy providers or senior trainers, please contact us for more information.
