Safeguarding children and young people is a legal obligation as stipulated in Section 11 of the Children Act.
This provision mandates that key individuals and relevant organizations must develop strategies to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people they encounter.
The objective of this course is to provide training and enhance the skills of professionals across a range of sectors to ensure staff in these roles are well equipped with the skills and knowledge to effectively safeguard in any situation.
Within this course there is a close examination of the different types of exploitation and the grooming process, equipping learners with the necessary knowledge to identify if a child or young person is being abused and/or groomed for exploitation.

Learning Outcomes

Learners will explore current understanding of safeguarding children.
Learners will discuss their own responsibilities in safeguarding children and the expectations of their organisation.
Know the current legislation and guidelines that are relevant to the safeguarding and protection of children and young people. Whilst knowing how this applies in practice.
Be able to explain the difference between, children in need, significant harm and looked after children.
Be able to identify different forms of child abuse.
Be able to recognise potential indicators of abuse including female genital mutilation, chest ironing and cyberbullying.
Develop a further understanding of child criminal exploitation, including county lines and child sexual exploitation.
Know what the grooming process is within different areas of abuse and be able to recognise potential indicators.
Be able to explain the process of what to do if you are worried about a child/young person, including how to make a safeguarding referral.
Explore real life situations that have occurred and discuss how we can use the knowledge learnt to ensure this is prevented from happening again.
Know what to do if you suspect abuse and how to support someone who is disclosing abuse, accurately record, and be able to explain what happens after abuse is reported.
