This course provides information for staff working in care settings who may be responsible for receiving, storing, administering, and disposing of medication.
Legislation that cares staff are required to work within and troubleshooting common errors that occur when supporting people to manage their medication needs.

Have an awareness of how medication is ordered and stored in a range of different health and social care settings.

Be able to describe the process of administering medication safely using the 6 R’s.
Be able to review the content of a MARS sheet and be able to describe what information should be included.
Discuss the term covert medication and the ethical implications.
Be able to explain PRN medication and examples of when it may be utilised.
Discuss the STOMP Pledge and its relevance in the learning disability and mental health sectors.
Describe the process of supporting people who self-medicate or take over the counter medication such as paracetamol.
Discuss the process of informed consent and what to do if someone does not wish to take their medication.
Explain how medication may need to be adjusted to meet the needs of people form a range of cultures and religions.
