This course is designed for practitioners who have experience of working with individuals who engage in behaviours that pose risk to themselves or others.
It is expected that participants will have an established understanding of Positive Behaviour Support and are implementing their skills in an organisation that support a PBS culture and framework.
Over a 6‑hour classroom session with 8–16 participants, you will learn how to involve supported individuals in Positive Behaviour Support planning, use assessment tools, and analyse data to inform evidence‑based behaviour support strategies.
This training session provides a practical and in-depth exploration of how to carry out functional behavioural assessments (FBA) and use the findings to create positive, person-centred PBS plans. You’ll gain the knowledge and tools to identify the reasons behind challenging behaviours and design effective support strategies tailored to individual needs.
Delivered in a classroom-based setting, this course encourages active participation through group discussions. The environment is designed to help learners build confidence, and develop the practical skills required to embed PBS principles into their roles.
By the end of the session, learners will be equipped with a practical framework for using evidence-based strategies to promote safer, more consistent, and person-centred behavioural support.
Our training covers several key areas, including:
Understanding the foundations and values of Positive Behaviour Support
How to use the crisis cycle to apply the right PBS strategies at the right time
Using tools like ABC charts, QABF, and MAS to collect and analyse behavioural data
Identifying behavioural functions and translating this into meaningful, proactive support
Designing PBS plans that include teaching new functional and communication skills
Aligning behavioural support with wider care plans and multi-disciplinary input
Implementing plans effectively across teams and evaluating their success in practice
This course is ideal for professionals already familiar with PBS who want to deepen their skills in functional assessment and plan development.
If you work in settings with people who display challenging or risky behaviours, such as supported living, residential care, education, or specialist services, this course supports your capacity to deliver safer, more person‑centred support.
By attending, you and your team will gain confidence in using assessment tools and interpreting behavioural data, improving the quality of behavioural support plans in your service, and ensuring practices are evidence‑based, consistent, and responsive to individual needs.
