Course Overview

This two-day Paediatric First Aid course equips learners with the knowledge and practical skills required to respond effectively to a wide range of first aid emergencies involving infants and children.

The course meets the requirements of the Department for Education’s *Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)* statutory framework and leads to a nationally recognised qualification. It is ideal for anyone responsible for the care and welfare of children in professional settings.

What's Involved?

This course is delivered over a minimum of two days and combines classroom learning with hands-on practical assessment.

Learners will cover both emergency and non-emergency paediatric first aid scenarios, supported by expert instruction, demonstrations, and opportunities to practise essential skills.

Assessment is completed through practical demonstration and written tasks, with successful learners receiving a certificate valid for three years.

Duration: 2 Days (Minimum 12 Guided Learning Hours)

Qualification: FAA Level 3 / SCQF Level 6 Award in Paediatric First Aid

Assessment: Practical demonstration and written assessment

Certification Validity: 3 Years

Maximum Group Size: 12 learners

Learning Outcomes

Understand the role and responsibilities of a Paediatric First Aider

Carry out a primary survey and manage emergency situations safely

Respond effectively to unconsciousness, resuscitation (CPR), and choking, including the safe use of an AED

Manage wounds, bleeding, shock, fractures, and head, neck, and back injuries

Recognise and respond to seizures, febrile convulsions, diabetic emergencies, asthma, and allergic reactions including anaphylaxis

Provide first aid for minor injuries, burns, extreme heat and cold, and electrical incidents

Identify and manage foreign bodies, meningitis, and recovery position scenarios

Apply first aid principles confidently to both infants and children
