This qualification will replace the current Care Certificate with the aim to ensure that all those working within the sector who do not currently have a care related role have a baseline level of knowledge and skills to provide hight quality care and support. Current statistics indicate that 54% of direct care workers lack a level 2 qualification or higher.
Under the DHSC's current plans, all employed care staff aged 19 and above, including those with existing relevant qualifications, will have the opportunity to complete the new Level 2 Adult Social Care Certificate. Please not that funding attached to this qualification will be prioritised for those who do not currently hold a care related qualification.
One of the advantages of this qualification is that valid recognition of prior learning (RPL) can be utilised, allowing staff to count reliable learning and assessment from their induction, training courses or experience in the role as evidence towards completing the qualification.
What is the purpose of this qualification and how can this benefit staff?
